Intent
At South Hiendley Primary Academy we intend to be the safe, secure and stimulating foundation which allows each child to begin their exciting journey into learning. We encourage children to be active, inquisitive and creative thinkers with a strong passion for learning. We believe that all children deserve to grow and achieve in an environment which provides the best opportunities for their learning and development.
We place great importance on the forming of secure and positive relationships with our children and their families. We take great pride in getting to know our local community and believe this forms a strong foundation for each child in our care. Our staff have the core belief that it is vital to show genuine interest and care in each child. This is evident in our secure attachments with children who are confident in themselves and their learning.
It is our underlying belief that the purpose of our EYFS teaching is to give children the best possible start to their learning journey. It is to provide them with early life experiences which develop the whole child and extends their thoughts, feelings and beliefs. It is our responsibility to ensure children leave our environment fully prepared and excited for their next stage in learning and development.
Implementation
Our children have the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding based on a bespoke curriculum. By design, this provides no limits or barriers and therefore allows all children to achieve to the best of their abilities. The Early Years Foundation Stage provides the basis for this depth of knowledge and understanding.
Our ambitious Curriculum is coherently planned and based on seven main areas of learning. We value all areas equally and use these as a driver to develop the whole child. All areas are vital in sparking children’s imagination, curiosity and excitement for learning. The curriculum is divided into prime and specific areas
The Prime Areas are:
The Specific Areas are:
Our experienced staff are confident and knowledgeable across all areas they teach and use this knowledge to plan purposeful provision for each child, providing opportunities for support and challenge where necessary. We recognise that each child needs a blended approach of play based learning, child initiated learning and adult focussed activities. Our learning environment and the resources we provide are stimulating and inviting allowing children the best opportunities to extend their learning. Our opportunities for child initiated learning are a key part of provision for children learning about themselves, their talents and their relationships with others.
Impact
Our children will demonstrate core values of play, active learning and critical thinking which match the ambitions of our curriculum. They will know more, understand more and remember more of their journey through EYFS. Through strong communication and language skills, they will speak with excitement and passion about their learning. Our children will have a strong sense of purpose in their education and will demonstrate skills of resilience and perseverance. The children leaving our setting will be tolerant and appreciative of the opinions and experiences of others and will greatly value and embrace the world and differences between themselves and others. Our learners will be fully prepared for the next stage in their learning and with a passion for learning throughout their life.
We offer a limited number of 30 hours extended nursery placements at South Hiendley Primary School. Places are limited and offered to parents who are eligible for the extended entitlement. The criteria for entitlement is that both parents or lone parents work on average 16hrs per week, but earn less than £100,000 per annum. Parents are responsible for checking their own eligibility by visiting Childcare Choices on the Government website. Requests for extended nursery hours should be made directly to the setting who will check availability.
30 Hours places are timed to stay in line with our full time provision. These places run from 8:45-3:15. Additional costs are incurred for the time over the 30 hours taken. This is £3 per session.
We expect all pupils at South Hiendley Primary School to wear the correct school uniform. This ensures that all the pupils look smart and ready to learn. The uniform for children attending South Hiendley Primary School is as follows:
If you wish to purchase uniform embroidered with the school logo, please visit the website below. Our school postcode is S72 9BY.
In our Nursery setting children are invited to take home a “Beautiful Book” to share with their grown up. Reading at home is vital at all stages of learning, particularly within the Early Years where children are acquiring new vocabulary and language. Reading every night can extend their knowledge and widen their experiences all through the pages of a book.
Provided below is a list of books which you could explore together at home.
